Candied Yams Ingredients:

 

 

4-5 medium sweet potatoes or yams

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup maple syrup

1/2 cup water

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

 

 

Candied Yams Instructions:

 

 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Wash and peel the sweet potatoes or yams, and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  3. Arrange the sweet potato slices in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  5. Add the brown sugar, maple syrup, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to the pan, and stir to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Pour the mixture over the sweet potato slices in the baking dish, making sure to coat all of the slices evenly.
  9. Cover the baking dish tightly with foil.
  10. Bake the candied yams for 45 minutes, or until they are tender.
  11. Remove the foil from the baking dish, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and the sweet potatoes are caramelized and browned on top.
  12. Let the candied yams cool for a few minutes before serving.
  13. Enjoy your delicious and sweet candied yams as a side dish!
